The Dube Birds Swallow Everything In Front of Them Like Pac-Man

Speculations have always been made about the second coming of Jesus and the end of the world. In 2020, it really felt like the world was indeed coming to the end but little did we know that Soweto had a hardened few who had banded together to fight for their club and those who had always supported the Dube Birds.

Before the arrival of Brandon Truter at Swallows, the club looked set to spend yet another season in the GladAfrica Championship. The players that looked unmotivated suddenly turned into world beaters and led Swallows in the DStv Premiership.

Most people were happy to see the Dube Birds in the topflight but started questioning their credentials once they started signing players such as Thabo Matlaba, Musa Nyatama, Wandisile Letlabika and others who were above the age of 30. On top of that, Swallows already had “oldies” like Vuyo Mere and Lebohang Mokoena.

Being over the age of 30 in South Africa as a player basically means you’re finished as a footballer and of course, this is the same operating model that sent them to bushes (that’s how many of us viewed it).
However, Coach Brandon managed to find a way of integrating his new signings with the players that won the 2019/20 GladAfrica Championship and the rest was history.

The Swallows which many had expected to fight for relegation is now finding itself on the same number of points with the defending league champions. Maybe it might be too soon but everything about this team screams TITLE CONTENDERS – Not only are they still undefeated, but they have amassed a total of 21 points after just 9 games, something which has never been seen from any side that comes from the lower divisions. In fact, most of the teams that have previously found themselves with so many points just after 9 games have won the Premiership at least once before.
We may not know what the future holds but this Swallows side has been a revelation to watch. Players who have been written off by many have stepped up and one can only imagine what’s going to happen in Dobsie once the fans are allowed back at the stadium.

For now, we salute and clap for Brandon Truter and his boys for keeping us entertained and making the DStv Premiership interesting
