Unbeaten Downs march on

Still unbeaten, Mamelodi Sundowns were looking to continue with their rich vein of form, amidst their sombre mood, when they hosted a luke-warm TS Galaxy at Loftus Versveld.

What started out as a fairly contested encounter, saw Galaxy create the better of the chances in the early stages of the match without converting any. Luck continued to evade the visitors as they hit the cross bar 22 min in. The reigning champions bridged the rookies defence through Peter Shalulile, from a silky Themba Zwane back-heel assist, grabbing his fourth goal of the season. The scoreline remained unchanged until the halfway mark.

As expected in the second half, Dan Malesela’s charges grew more and more in confidence, pilling on the pressure for an equaliser. Dennis Onyango was having none of it as he remained the main reason that goal proved elusive. All that fizzled when Bafana Ba Style grabbed their second goal through the evergreen Themba Zwane when he converted his 7th in 7 games.

TS won a penalty late in referee’s optional time when defender, Brian Onyango handled the ball in what should have need a routine clearance. As it has been throughout the match, the Ugandan shot-stopper prevented the Mpumalanga based outfit from getting a consolation goal, when he saved the penalty. 2-0 it ended and Downs remained top of the DSTV Premiership table.
