Chippa United Unveil 16 New Signings

Chippa United has made their intentions clear ahead of the much-anticipated new DSTV premiership season as they reinforced their squad.

The club’s COO Mr. Lukhanyo Mzinzi, alongside the Mayor of Gqeberha, Nqaba Bhanga as well as their head coach Gavin Hunt unveiled the new 16 signings at the Isango Gate hotel.

Experienced players such as Rodney Ramagalela and Mogakolodi Ngele are some of the noticeable signings whose addition will play an influential role in the club’s quest this season. Mamelodi Sundowns trio Sammy Seabi, Siphesihle Mkhize Phakamani Mahlambi (loan) also form part of the squad.

The Qgeberha-based side also announced new captain Lubeni Haukongo who will take charge in ushering the team in the new league campaign. The Namibian international who played for Ligue 1 champions, Lille has taken over the reins from central defender, Frederic Nsabiyumva.

As part of their quest to ensure that young players are part of the system, Chippa United announced three young players. Azola Matroos, Jenovane September and Kewen Prince will also look to ply their trade for the Chilli Boys this season.

The team also seized the opportunity to unveil their new home and away kit with the club’s technical sponsor RADA, a brand owned by the team’s chairman, Chippa Mpengesi.

Mr. Mzinzi who was holding the Fort for the club’s chairman declared that the team is fired up the upcoming season. In his eloquent speech, Mzinzi vowed that the team will try its utmost best to stay clear of the relegation battle after they finished 15th placed last season. Newly appointed coach, Hunt who will be at the helm of the Chilli Boys echoed Mzinzi’s words.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach expressed that although the team has signed a lot of players, expectations of the club’s supporters remain a priority. He also indicated that the delivery on the field will play a pivotal role in guiding their ambitions in their campaign kicking it off with an away opener against Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon.

Will we witness the rise of Chill Boys or will things stay the same from the team in the windy city of Gqeberha? That remains to be seen.
