The Durban derby had all the shukela you’d need in a derby in one of the most mouth-watering encounters between the 2 teams.
Albeit it ending in a 2 – 2 draw, the encounter had both teams not scared to have a proper go at each other.
AmaZulu took the lead in the 23rd minute through Xola Mlambo who was dominant in the assigned attacking midfield role.
Their lead was cancelled through a Knox Mutizwa spot kick as he slotted it it to beat Veli Mothw, after Masilela was adjudged to have handled the ball on the box.
Abafana Bes’thende were presented with an opportunity to take the lead as they were awarded another penalty after Luvuyo Memela fouled Nkosinathi Sibisi inside the box, however Knox fluffed the chance this time.
Arrrows goal did come, in the second half through a corner by Saziso Magawana which met Matome Mathiane head beating Usuthu’s goalie.
As it has become the norm, another penalty was awarded, this time to Usuthu. AmaZulu found an equaliser minutes later through Bongi Ntuli. It was awarded after a foul by Sibisi.
In his post match interview Benni acknowledged that as hard as it has been, the team is happy to get a point in the game. ” Getting one point is better than getting another loss on our name.”
“If we get a win against our next opponent we will be on 6 points and jump to the top half of the log and that’s where we belong” concluded Benni.
