Chiefs, Sundowns share spoils in an entertaining encounter

Chiefs came into the Sundowns match on a dire run of form and were hoping to turn the corner. The Glamour Boys welcomed Masandawana with a guard of honour at FNB Stadium.

It was the Brazilians who drew first blood in the second half through in-form wingback Aubrey Modiba, whose volley left Bruce Bvuma rooted to the spot.

Sundowns were in control of the match until Sirino got substituted. Chiefs began to gain confidence and responded with a volley from Nange to make it 1-1. Chiefs had an opportunity to snatch all points when Dolly’s penalty was saved by Pieterse.

Chiefs’ had two opportunities later on which fell on Nurkovic but the target man failed to take advantage of Downs’ sloppy defence.

CT City tighten grip on second, Baroka and Swallows in deep trouble

The battle for 2nd spot took another twist when Cape Town City defeated TS Galaxy 2-0 in Cape Town thanks to goals from Darwin Gonzalez and Mdu Mdantsane from the spot.

Royal AM – who occupy third spot – had the fixture against Orlando Pirates postponed as the Sea Robbers prepare for their CAF Confederations Cup semi-final first-leg tip to Al Ahli Tripoli.

At the other end of the table, it’s as you were the relegation-threatened teams who all drew. Maritzburg drew 1-1 in Stellenbosch, Swallows drew 2-2 vs SuperSport, Chippa also drew 2-2 at home vs Baroka.

Baroka and Swallows remain in the bottom two spots and will be desperate to become upwardly mobile in the coming weeks as the season nears its conclusion.  Maritzburg and Chippa need three points apiece to secure their DStv Premiership status while the likes of Baroka, Swallows and TS Galaxy will be sweating as they run out of runway to save their respective seasons.

Richards Bay have one foot in the DStv Premiership door

Richards Bay took another massive step toward automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership at the weekend as they bagged a 2-1 win over TS Sporting in Mpumalanga. The Natal Rich Boyz now need to avoid defeat against Cape Town Spurs in their final match of the season to gain promotion.

AmaTuks, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by Cape Town Spurs and their automatic promotion hopes took a major hit.

At the other end of the table, TS Sporting joined Jomo Cosmos as the other relegated club. Both sides will ply their trade in the ABC Motsepe League next season.

Thrills and spills aplenty in the Hollywoodbets Super League

Sundowns Ladies’ 5-0 over Durban Ladies saw the reigning Hollywoodbets Super League champions take their goal difference to a staggering +17 after just three games. The champions were in a ruthless mood as midfielder Boitumelo Rabale bagged her first hat-trick of the season with other goals coming from Mali and captain Nhlapho. The eThekwini Team remain the only team in the league this season yet to find the back of the net.

TUT came from behind to beat UWC 3-1 away from home. The hosts opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Banyana star, Sibulele Holweni. However, TUT who recently had a coaching change, showed their class when Ndimeni netted her brace to take her goal tally of the season to four before Motlogelwa closed the tie with her first of the season.

Newcomers Vasco da Gama bagged their first win in the Hollywoodbets Super League, beating Tsunai Queens 2-1 at the UWC Stadium.
