If it is not broken, don’t fix it. This is the advice Shadrack, Mishack and Abednigo missed when Sundowns visited Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium.
Sundowns started off with vigour as they took the lead in the 17th minute with a well headed goal from Mthobi Mvala. The Brazilians continued to pile on the pressure with Maboe ballooning his shot over the posts. 5 minutes later Mandla Ncikazi’s lads equalised form a Michael Gumede header. If we are being honest, Onyango could have done better and the least mentioned about Nascimento’s defending the better. Abafana Bes’thende carried the momentum and had the Samba boys on the ropes, but couldn’t capitalise as the decisions they made in the final 3rd proved useless. A goal a piece it ended in half time.
Arrows continued with their training session in the second half while the Downs players admired. The visitors could barely string together 3 passes. A change in the midfield saw Vilakazi coming on for an out-of-place Grant Margeman and Lesedi Kapinga for Promise Mkhuma respectively, but that didn’t yield any results.
The KZN outfit was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty late in the second half when Dennis Onyango elbowed Mathiane. Replay showed it should have been both a caution and a penalty, but Jelly Chabane acted ilke Ray Charles to all that was happening. The 3 wise men had made peace with stealing a point in the game and it ended in a stalemate. 2 points dropped for Arrows as they moved into 5th position. Both teams retain their unbeaten run.
